Starting Your Puppy Off Right

Maybe you just got a new member in the family, its a cute little furry thing that will be a member of your family for many years. The first thing that you will want to do with the puppy is to make him a likable member of your family. It's never too early to get him trained on the road to good behavior. There are some easy things that you can do from the beginning to get your puppy trained.

You will want to start training your puppy, and teaching them good behavior from the moment that you get the puppy.

The first thing that you will want to do is to get him housebroken. This is done by being consistent routines. You will want to feed him at regular times then take him outside to use the bathroom. Puppies will quickly learn to go outside for their business once you do this daily over several weeks. Soon they will let you know when they will have to go out. This isn't saying that they won't have accidents inside, but this will lessen the chance of having an accident. You can start housebreaking puppies from the time that you bring them home.

Crate Training is another effective training method that you will want to start as soon as you bring your puppy home. This will not only protect your house from puppy nibbling on corners of furniture and tearing things up, it will also keep them safe. When you are not at home you will want to put the puppy in the crate, and when you are sleeping. It doesn't take puppies long to learn that this is where they are going to sleep and its easy to teach them to be crate trained if you start as soon as you bring them into the house.

Teaching them to walk on a leash will take several weeks to get them fully trained. start by taking the puppy on short trips on the leash. While walking them on a leash you will want to expose them to normal everyday events in your neighborhood. Such as other dogs, bikes, kids, and people. This is a duel training for the puppy. They will learn to walk on a leash, and get socialization habits together at the same time.

The most important thing with a puppy is that they are socialized outside of the family home. You want to expose to them as many experiences as possible when they are puppies. This will help them later in life when they are exposed to these elements and become scared and maybe aggressive. You will want them to be used to usual neighborhood activities while they are small enough and as puppies where you can handle them.

Training your puppy will be a family affair and you will want to be consistent and have everyone teaching the puppy the same behavior.

You can't be successful if one person tries to teach the puppy different behavior it will just confuse the puppy and the puppy will never learn.
