Exploring the LG Optimus S Phone for Sprint

The newest android hone that sprint has come out with is the LG Optimus S. It is one of the most affordable price phone that they offer with the android application on it.  It’s one the newest smart phones on the market. Right now it comes in black but the plans are that it will come out in purple. It has a 3.2 inch screen which is a touch screen and has hardware buttons under the screen.

The Sprint LG Optimus S there are hardware buttons on the outside of the phone, you have buttons for camera on side - and one for voice dialing has volume button. stereo 3.5mm jack for headphones. SD card . Included is a 2gig card with the phone. Speaker is on the back. 3.2mp camera, but there is no flash, the camera will record videos though which is nice.

The phone as 5 page home screen that you can move your widgets to make them easier to access. You just drag the ones that you want on to the front page and you can move them from one screen to the other.

Has Sprint TV on the phone - where you can watch TV on your phone. Doesn’t take the whole screen have a black box around the phone?  You can watch YouTube from the phone - shows clear pictures and if you have a good signal you will be able to watch TV and YouTube from the phone.

Keyboard is a little small when you are in portrait mode - it’s a little bigger when you go landscape mode. I downloaded a different keyboard that was easier for me to use, and it has worked fine. I also have the option to use the voice activated talk to text. If you talk slowly the software does a pretty good job at texting what I am saying. Actually, it spells much better than I do when I am trying to type on the phone. It also saves allot of time when I am in a hurry and have to send a message.

Web Browsing can be done on the phone. When you go to the browser - you will need to zoom in to read the websites you go to the phone. It's really not an issue.

With Google maps that is loaded on the phone or you can get from the android market you can see maps, and get the location, and even get the sprint map.

The Camera takes ok photos, takes about 2 seconds to take a photo, there is no flash, and you can take video with the camera.

Call quality was fine with the phone, I had no problems hearing the other person, nor did they have problems hearing me when I was on the phone. There is also an external speaker that you can use to give you hand free talking ability. You can also hook up the Bluetooth to make it even more private when you are talking to someone

Battery life is not that bad. You can use the cable that comes with the phone to plug into a computer to charge the phone with the USB cable; it comes with a wall charger that your USB cable will plug into. And I purchased a cheap USB car charger off of eBay that works with the phone, so I am always near a place that I can charge my phone.

Phone has GPS that will be useful when searching for restaurants nearby, The GPS will also help you when you are looking for directions, you can use your phone as a GPS not needing to purchase an additional GPS for the phone.

You can use the phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot, or use it as a modem for you phone. You can download apps from the marketplace and download a program to do it, some of them are free.

Sync your phone to your Google account. You can find an address on Google maps online and when you hit the send button you have the option to send it to your phone - all you have to do is put in the number and the carrier and hit send. Once it gets to your phone, you will be able to open the link in a Google maps or a web browser. With the GPS on while you open the map, it will show you the address that you are at, as well as the map surrounding the location that you sent.

Installing Ringtones on the LG OPTIMUS S

One way that you can install the Ringtones is to use an application that you downloaded from the market such as RingDriod. But maybe you have the ringtones on your computer that you will want to transfer over to the phone. This is easy to do. You will want to hook up the phone with the USB cable and there should be the icon on the phone that will ask you if you want to use the USB transfer.

You will then want to go to the folders on your LG phone and create a new folder called something like "ringtones". Once you have that created you can just move the mp3s over to the phone and have your own collection of ringtones. Once you go back to your phone and to settings look for sound, then ringtones and search of the ringtone you want to use with your phone.  

Want to always send a certain number to voicemail automatically?

Find the contact who you would like to send to voicemail each time they call, and open them up, if you scroll to the bottom, you will see an option "send to voicemail". Just tap that option and with the popup that asks you if you are sure just say yes. That is all there is to always send that contact with that number to voicemail and never have your phone ring when they call.

There are many options that you can do with the LG Optimus phone that once you get the phone sand start playing with it and learning about you will babe pleasantly shocked that you can do so much with this little lightweight phone from Sprint.
