With New Years you may have made a resolution to finally lose those excess pounds that you have been carrying around for several years. This is the year that you can finally lose the excess weight and become healthier without the excess weight.

Dieting isn't that hard to do, but it’s difficult to continue. There are some many food choices that you can choose from and it doesn't take much to overeat during the day. One trip to your favorite restaurant or fast food place can blow your diet for that day. The trick is to not get discouraged, and the next meal, or the next day get back on your diet.

There are many different ways that you can lose the weight, some will tell you not to eat or to eat very few calories every day, and this isn't the way to go with the long term weight loss. You will want to learn to eat normal meals every day, and be able to continue to eat even after you are off your diet. Low calories will not allow you to do this. It will make your body think that it's starving and instead of losing weight, your fat cells will continue to store food so that your body can survive. Once you go back to eating normal calories you will gain weight also, because your body will again store the food to use as energy.

Diet pills will allow you to lose weight however they do have horrible side effects.  With some of the pills you have to force yourself to eat every day. This isn't good, because it's easy not to eat simply because you don't feel like it. Your body may not get enough nutrients that it need while being on diet pills. One thing you will want to consider not doing, is buying the pills over the counter off the shelves of drugstores, you never really know if it’s safe for you or not. They will make claims that they can't really deliver on their promises. Always see your doctor if you want to take diet pills. Get a prescription and have the doctor monitor your health.

So how should you lose weight? Well there isn't any fix quick overnight remedy to lose the weight. Of course if you think about it, you didn't gain all this weight over night. So it will take time for you to lose it also.  One good way to lose the weight is to cut back on your calories and exercise. This is the safest way to lose the weight. When you gained the weight, you did the opposite; you didn't exercise and ate more calories.

So how many calories do and should you need to eat daily? Some will give you a definite number depending on if you’re male or female, but in reality you will want to think about how much you want to weight, look that number up on a chart of how many calories a person weighing that amount should eat every day. This does two things, one you will eat less calories than you do now, you will be sure that you are getting enough calories every day, and you will begin to learn how much you can eat everyday to maintain your new weight and decreasing the possibilities of gaining that weight back. You will learn to eat normal size portions and you will be full after eating the calories for a person who weighs what you want to be weighing.

Exercise isn't one of my favorite things to do. In fact I hate it, but I do it every day, I walk daily. I can walk 3 miles in an hour. An hour to yourself isn't that long and does wonders for your spirit and wellbeing. You can put on your IPod and hit the track. Maybe you have a local mall that you can walk during bad weather. It’s hard to get started walking, My first day at the track I thought I was going to die, I only made 1 lap around the track, but I kept going back every day, and everyday I got a little stronger and was able to walk further. Now I feel horrible if I don't walk every day. So start off slow and work your way up. You will reach your goals.

Drinking water. You will want to drink plenty of water every day to help your body digest the food, and keeping you feeling full. Drinking water throughout the day will cleanse your body of impurities and will give you more energy, and you will feel better. You will notice also that enough water will make your skin start to look better.

So that is the secret to losing weight. Eat fewer calories; drink plenty of water, and exercise. It sounds simple, but really it’s not easy to continue doing this day after day, but once you lose your first 10 pounds, you will be motivated to continue to lose weight.
